Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has slammed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for claiming that politicians from the Mount Kenya Region should dominate Nairobi's political ecosystem after the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking during a public event on Sunday, December 7, the health boss said that Gachagua should respect the contributions that each community has made over the years to Nairobi's social and economic growth.
Duale claimed that Gachagua's statements are politically motivated and aim to bring a division between people from the Mount Kenya Region and other communities, who have shared a healthy relationship over the years.
"I really want the former Deputy President to respect other communities. The Kikuyu Community is one of our best friends and business partners, particularly in Eastleigh. The people who buy goods from the malls in Eastleigh, the majority of them come from the Mount Kenya Region," Duale said.
Duale stressed that if Gachagua should keep his tribalism to himself, as the national goal is to build a unified and indivisible Kenya where all communities are included.
Duale's sentiments came hours after the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader dismissed reports that there was a battle for supremacy in Nairobi County within the opposition.
Gachagua claimed that the opposition side would remain united, and they would work hand in hand to back their allies in areas where they are politically dominant.
According to Gachagua, the opposition side will leverage Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's political experience to spearhead the opposition's politics in the country's capital.
Gachagua further invited leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to join hands with the opposition to dethrone President William Ruto's government come 2027.
"In Nairobi, Wiper has had a big name. They've always helped ODM. There is no way we will have friendly fire. So where Wiper is strong, we will support Wiper. Where DCP is strong, we will request Wiper to support DCP," Gachagua said.
"We want the face of Kenya in Nairobi, and we don't want ODM to be left behind. We are depending on Kalonzo to plan for Nairobi because he has experience. That will be his job," Gachagua added.
Gachagua's clarification came after initial reports that there was an agreement to have his party control all the Nairobi top seats, including gubernatorial and senatorial seats in 2027. Kalonzo denied these claims and labeled them as propaganda.
