Suspected drug baron, Yusuf Ahmed Swaleh alias Candy Rain was on Sunday found dead in Vipingo, Kilifi County.

Reports indicate that Swaleh's body was found  dumped on Sunday evening days after he was taken in for interrogation by persons posing as police officers.

According to his lawyer, individuals who identified themselves as police officers showed up at his doorstep and ostensibly told Swaleh that they needed to interrogate him and subsequently took him in nine days ago.

It is believed that Swaleh was killed shortly after the supposed abduction.

By the time of publishing this article, police were yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

Reportedly, Swaleh has been the kingpin of the drug trafficking at the Coast following the extradition of Akasha brothers to the United States on drug trafficking charges.

Swaleh has in the past been acquitted severally in drug trafficking cases. The most recent instance was in 2018 when he was charged with trafficking Ksh275,000 heroin.

This particular case was initially being heard at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Law Courts before Swaleh requested that the case be transferred to Mombasa.

Later, the Mombasa court acquitted Swaleh allowing him to walk free despite all the allegations levelled against him.

Similarly, Swaleh had in the past faced money laundering charges and jailed for ten years at the Shimo La Tewa Prison. He would later be acquitted and released from prison.

The suspected drug baron’s death comes barely a month after the national government indicated that it was scaling up the war against drugs at the Coast.

During a working tour in the region, the Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome issued an ultimatum to the police to have a drug baron arrested during the duration of his visit.

He also reshuffled the regional police bosses in the Coast Region, stating that the previous boss had failed to rein in on the narcotics trade.
