Safaricom-backed French Rally driver Adrien Fourmaux is brimming with confidence ahead of this weekend's World Rally Championships (WRC) Safari Rally in Naivasha, following a sponsorship deal with M-PESA Global International Money Transfer service worth Ksh20 million.

Announced on Wednesday, March 26, the sponsorship was marked with an exhibition event at Safaricom PLC Headquarters, where Esther Masese Waititu, Safaricom's Chief Financial Officer, stressed the importance of nurturing emerging talents in sports.

"Sports is the way Safaricom connects with people," Waititu stated, reaffirming Safaricom's commitment to supporting young drivers.

The partnership will see Fourmaux's Ford Puma Hybrid Rally1 adorned with M-PESA branding during the Safari Rally in Kenya, with the branding extending to his racing overalls for the remainder of the season.

Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom's CEO, in a press release, expressed excitement about the collaboration, highlighting the company's dedication to engaging with customers globally through initiatives like the WRC Safari Rally sponsorship.

Adrien Fourmaux, already established as a rising star in French rally driving, is anticipated to shine in this year's championships, having demonstrated his skills with notable victories and podium finishes in previous events.

Speaking about his expectations for the Safari Rally, Fourmaux described it as a unique challenge that tests drivers' car management abilities amidst rough terrain and unpredictable weather conditions.

"It is really a special one…a big challenge for all the rally drivers," Fourmaux commented during a meet and greet event on Wednesday evening, emphasizing the rally's unique features and demanding nature.

He added, “I wish could have the podium in Kenya we know anything can happen, we can be on top of the podium. We are going to fight for it.”

He further noted the rally's emphasis on strategic prowess over sheer bravado, expressing his aim to preserve his M-Sport Ford throughout the competition.

As part of the sponsorship package, Safaricom will offer rally enthusiasts opportunities to tour the M-Sport service station at the WRC service park in Naivasha, providing a behind-the-scenes experience.

In addition to Fourmaux's sponsorship, Safaricom announced a Ksh36 million sponsorship for the Safari Rally, reinforcing its position as the event's official technology partner.

The sponsorship includes provisions for seamless 4G network connectivity during the rally, enhancing the viewing experience for spectators.

As part of this sponsorship, Kenyan youngster Hamza Anwar will receive support to the tune of Ksh5 million as he competes in the WRC3 category with a Rally 3 Ford Fiesta, equipped with state-of-the-art telematics technology.

Throughout the rally, Safaricom will offer an exclusive experience to its customers at various selected locations along the rally route, including a special WRC Easter bundle offer.

Safaricom is sponsoring 30 lucky Kenyans for a front-row seat at the WRC Safari Rally.

With the Safari Rally reverting to its original Easter holiday slot after a 26-year hiatus, anticipation runs high as 29 entries prepare for the event, featuring top contenders such as Kalle Rovanpera and Elfyn Evans, alongside Adrien Fourmaux and other promising talents.
