Godfrey Mapesa, an aspirant for the Lumakanda Ward post in the 2022 general election lost his life on April 14 in an early morning accident.
In a post on Sunday, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale revealed that his fellow United Democratic Alliance (UDA) politician was travelling in a personal car when he met his death.
His car is reported to have crashed at the Mwamba area in Lugari, Kakamega County.
By the time of publishing this article, details surrounding the accident were still scanty. It is still unclear if the MCA was the only fatality in the morning incident.
Mapesa attempted to vie for the Lumakanda MCA seat in 2022 on a UDA ticket but lost to the current sitting MCA,Benard Wanyonyi Mulama Bokanda.
Bokanda joined other leaders from the region in mourning the fallen politician describing Mapesa as a vibrant leader whose death will be a blow to the whole Luhya community.
“We as Lumakanda Ward people have lost. Rest in Peace Brother, friend and colleague,” Bokanda stated on his official social media handles.
Khalwale also mourned the young politician indicating that it was difficult coming to terms with Mapesa's death.
“It's hard to come to terms with this. I extend my condolences to the people of Lumakanda ward, his family, colleagues, and friends,” read his condolence message in part.
The MCA aspirant’s death comes after a police officer passed on in the same area of Mwamba in another grisly accident.
It is reported that the police officer was riding a motorcycle when a trailer crashed into him, killing him on April 11.
The officer is stated to have been on annual leave and was travelling on the motorcycle when the truck struck him from behind.
Additionally, another police officer passed away in another accident that occurred on Saturday, April 13, along the Marsabit-Moyale Highway.
The incident occurred when the vehicle reportedly veered off the highway, subsequently rolling multiple times before coming to a stop in a nearby thicket in the Kambi Nyoka area.
