President William Ruto has condemned Iran's decision to launch missiles on Israel.

In a statement on X, the Head of State termed the attacks as a disturbing development likely to aggravate the ongoing conflict in the Middle East

"Kenya is deeply concerned by Iran's attack on the State of Israel. This disturbing development only serves to aggravate an already delicate situation in the Middle East," Ruto stated.

The Head of State further argued that the attacks presented a threat to international peace and asked Israel to restrain itself from retaliating.

"The attack represents a real and present threat to international peace and security, contravenes the Charter of the United Nations and should be condemned by all peace-loving countries," he added.

"In responding to this act of aggression, Kenya urges Israel to show utmost restraint taking into account the urgent need for all parties to walk away from the brink beyond which recovery will be enormously difficult."

On Saturday night, Iran unleashed over 300 missiles and drones towards Israel which marked the first direct attack from Iranian soil.

Titled Operation True Promise, the assault lasted four hours with explosions heard across several cities in Israel among them its capital Tel Aviv, as per Al Jazeera.

Israel’s chief military spokesman, Daniel Hagari, told the press that the attack involved 120 ballistic missiles, 170 drones, and more than 30 cruise missiles.

The Israeli military, however, revealed that a majority of the missiles were intercepted before hitting their targets. They received help from the United States, the United Kingdom and France as well as Jordan.

Only a seven-year-old girl was severely injured by the missile fragments while others sustained minor injuries. No fatalities were reported.

Iran's attack was a retaliation to Israel's for reportedly striking its consulate located in Damascus which killed 13 people.
