The government through the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) in a Gazette notice dated Friday, April 12, issued a 7-day operating notice to six postal courier companies.

CAK revealed that the national couriers would revoke the licence upon lapse of the notice.

The national postal courier operators facing closure serve the major cities of Nairobi, Mombasa and Eldoret with branches in various parts of the country.

Additionally, Shopn Shopn Online Store based in Mombasa was also earmarked for companies facing licence revocation.

“The revocation will take effect 7 days from the date of this Gazette Notice. Any resources held under any of these licences shall revert to the Authority upon revocation,” it was directed.

“Upon revocation of the licences listed hereabove, the service providers/operators shall not be authorised to operate and provide services.”

Additionally, CAK revoked over 30 licences for local TV stations within the same timeframe.

All the TV stations shut down were under Commercial Free To Air (FTA).

It was not immediately revealed whether the postal courier services and TV stations would resume operations if they adhered to all requirements as stipulated in the Kenya Information and Communications Act.
