Kenyans Given 24 Days to Collect Abandoned Goods Imported to the Country

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is set to auction goods abandoned at the Inland Container Depot Nairobi (ICDN) after 24 days lapsed.

In a notice from George Oloo Aduwi, the Chief Manager of Port Operations at ICDN under KRA, it was revealed that there were over 70 containers with goods worth millions which are yet to be collected.

Owners of the goods have been given 24 days to claim them or lose the items through a public auction to be held in May.

According to the notice, these containers are being held in different locations with various items which might be sold to the public from May 13, 2024, after public viewing.

The items are located either at ICDN or Compact Free Trade Zone. All interested bidders are urged to visit these sites during the auction.

"Pursuant to the provisions of section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, notice is given that unless the under-mentioned goods are entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, ICDN within 30 days of this notice, they may be sold by public auction on the May 13, May 14 and May 15, 2024. Interested buyers may view the goods at the specific locations indicated on May 9 and May 10, 2024, during office hours," read part of the notice.

From the list published, some of the goods had been shipped in as early as October 2022 but were yet to be claimed. Other items were received in 2023 carrying different items.

These items include; a vehicle, sliding table saw, hospital beds, wheeled desk, sanitary cabin antique stones, used assorted religious books, medical equipment, and a kitchen cabinet with fittings.

Other items include; automotive parts, urine and vomit spill pack, 56 large bags of clothing, a handwash station, adjustable stools, bins, 480 polypropylene sharps containers, a resuscitation trolley, a drip stand freeway IV infusion pump among other items.

Some of the consignees for these goods include; Equip Agencies, Pamuko Enterprises, Taawum Trust, Megh Cushion Industries Limited, Greenbo Africa Limite, Nova Home Studio Limited, Urysia Limited, and Ngong Forest Primary School.

Similarly, Deok-Med Limited, Emelda Zulus Bethune, Redeemed Gospel Church Inc, Artchtech Contractors Company Limited, Equatorial Nut Processors Limited, and Mehdi Rastad Indiv were listed as consignees.

When the time lapses, items that will still be at the two locations will be sold to the public. The owners are therefore urged to act promptly to collect their items.
