Nkaissery Takes U-turn on CORD Madaraka Rally

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has now stated that he will provide security to CORD and other Kenyans at Uhuru Park during their Madaraka Day rally.

Nkaissery confirmed the new decision on Tuesday, despite earlier vowing to arrest the Opposition leaders if they went ahead with their Wednesday event.

“we will respect the courts decision on CORD'S rally at Uhuru Park, We will provide security to them and all other Kenyans,” Mr Nkaissery confirmed.

The CS's sentiments come barely hours after High Court judge, George Odunga authorised the Opposition to proceed with the meeting on condition that they maintain law and order.

Justice Odunga ruled that CORD had followed the right procedure to acquire the grounds and ordered the police to provide security.

Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta invited CORD leader Raila Odinga and Senator Moses Wetangula to a Luncheon in honour of visiting Korean Head of State then held a meeting with the two in a bid to calm down the rising political temperatures.

He further went ahead to invite them for the Madaraka Day celebrations in Nakuru but CORD turned down the invitation.
