Police Seize Bhang Inside Funeral Bus

A group of mourners travelling on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway was shocked after police officers seized drugs in a hearse they were using.

The vehicle was reportedly ferrying family members from Kisumu to Mombasa when it was flagged down by traffic officers at Voi area.

Upon conducting a thorough search into the contents of the luggage, police recovered two bags of bhang hidden in the vehicle belonging to Janam Funeral Services.

Owners of the drugs managed to escape as the security agents were conducting the search. However, the driver and conductor of the vehicle were detained at Voi Police Station awaiting completion of investigations.

The vehicle was also impounded leaving the mourners who were returning from a burial ceremony with no alternative but to seek an alternative means of transport.

Other passengers expressed disbelief in the incident, claming that they were not aware that the vehicle was transporting narcotics.

In the past, drug peddlers have been apprehended using extreme ways to transact their business. Last year, 1,100 sachets of illicit brew were seized at the Malaba border while being ferried from Uganda packed in a coffin.

During the incident, six people disguised as mourners were arrested.
