MPs Junet, Olekina Listed Among 60 Nominees for Conferment of National Honours

Parliament has released a list of 60 nominees for conferment of national honours. The list, dominated by elected politicians, will receive their conferment during the 2025 Mashujaa Day national event to be held in Kitui County.

Among the 60 nominees, 11 are senators, while 35 are Members of the National Assembly. The remaining 14 are senior government officials drawn from various departments.

The nominees have been recommended for recognition under different categories, including the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS), and Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS).

Senators in the list include Minority Whip Ledama Olekina, who was proposed for the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear.

Other senators, nominated for CBS, are Nyeri's Wahome Wamating’a, Marsabit Senator Mohammed Said Chute, and David Wafula of Bungoma County.

Others are Johnes Mwashusha - Taita Taveta, Issa Juma - Kwale County, William Kipkemoi - Elgeyo Marakwet, James Ekomwa - Turkana, and Nominated Senators Veronica Miana, Hamida Kibwana and Beth Kalunda.

Minority Whip Silvanus Osoro was also nominated for the CBC alongside the Minority Whip Junet Mohammed, National Assembly Deputy Speaker, Gladys Boss and several other parliamentary committee chairs and vice chairs.

Some of the other nominated Members of the National Assembly include Naisula Leisuuda, Otiende Amolo, Dido Raso, William Kamket, Didmus Barasa, Eve Obara and Mark Mwenje.

According to an announcement by Parliament, the other nominees include key parliamentary staff, such as directors and senior officers from both the National Assembly and the Senate.

Others proposed for CBS are CPA Nyegenye Jeremiah Nyegeye , Clerk of the Senate and Parliamentary Service Commission Secretary.

Mary Wanyonyi Chebukati, the widow of the late Former IEBC chairperson, Wafula Chebukati, was nominated for the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (MGH). She is the chairperson of the Commission on Revenue Allocation.

Parliament is inviting public to submit any objections or representations of the nominees to the Joint Secretariate, Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee.

"Submissions must be made through honours@parliament.go.ke and received on or before Monday, 13th October 2025, at 5 pm. Presidential awards are granted under the authority of the National Honours Act of 2013," part of the statement reads.
