Shollei, Ledama Among 14 MPs Listed for Presidential Awards [LIST]
The Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee proposed 14 members of parliament and the senate be conferred honours for their distinguished service to the nation.
On Friday, November 18, the committee also added two clerks from both houses, with the total number of recipients rising to 18.
Chief of the Order of Burning Spear (CBS)
The nominees for the CBS award were: MPs, Sylvanus Osoro (South Mugirango) Naomi Waqo (Marsabit) Senators Lelegwe Ltumbesi (Samburu) Ledama Ole Kina (Narok) and Samuel Njoroge, the Clerk of National Assembly.
Moran of the Golden Heart (MGH)
Gladys Boss Shollei (Deputy Speaker) MPs Owen Baya (Kilifi North) Robert Mbui (Kathiani), Senators Tabitha Keroche (Nakuru) Enoch Wambua (Kitui).
Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS)
Eunice Gichangi, the Deputy Clerk of the Senate.
Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW)
Njenga Ruge, Director of Legislative and Procedural Services at the Senate, and Faryd Shadia, retired Head of Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) Secretariat.
Parliament enacted the Parliamentary Honours Act, 2013 which in turn established three Advisory Committees to assist the President in identifying nominees in accordance with the Act.
Among these advisory Committees is the Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee chaired by the two Speakers of Parliament.
The National Honors and Awards Committee also advise the president on who to award the decorations and medals.
Recipients are nominated by their county commissioners, government agencies, religious institutions, non-governmental entities, individuals, and other community-based groups.
