Eliud Kipchoge's Ommision From Presidential Awards List Angers Kenya

The latest Presidential Awards list has elicited different reactions from netizens from around the country.

Featured in the list were top governors, senators, and MPs. Kenyans took to social media to congratulate the recipients while some questioned the criteria the president used to compile his list.

One major omission, however, has not been received lightly by Kenyan who condemned the missing of the marathon world record holding athlete Eliud Kipchoge's name in the awards list.

Kenyans expressed that Kipchoge, who has had quite a successful year in his Athletics career deserved to receive the Elder of the Golden Heart Award (EGH) for flying the Kenyan flag high.

Kipchoge has received two presidential awards so far, the Chief Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) and the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW).

He wowed the world this year after breaking the Marathon World Record during the 2018 Berlin Marathon in September.

On December 5, 2018, Kipchoge bagged the prestigious male World Athlete of the Year by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) 2018 male World Athlete of the Year.

Kenyans felt that Kipchoge deserved the presidential honour more than some of the politicians listed by President Uhuru.

Another personality who evidently missed in the list was Makueni Governor, Kivutha Kibwana.

Sources, however, clarified that the governor was the holder of the highest Presidential honours for his rank, the Elder of the Golden Heart.

The most prestigious award, the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart (CGH), is mostly awarded to presidents with Uhuru Kenyatta and Mwai Kibaki being among the few accorded the honour.
