Mining Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya on Friday revoked the appointment of Jessica Gakinya as a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Fisheries Service.
In a Gazette notice, the CS announced that Shukran Gure would take over Gakinya's position. Gure previously served as the Garissa Woman Representative.
"The Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs appoints Shukran Gure to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Fisheries Service, for three years, with effect from March 15, 2024. The appointment of Jessica Gakinya is revoked," read part of the notice.
Gakinya was appointed in 2022 by the former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya for three years starting May 2022.
Her revocation came a few days after President William Ruto nominated Gakinya as Kenya's Ambassador to Rabat, Morocco.
If her nomination is approved, Gakinya will rebuild Kenya's ties with Morocco after Kenya opened its new embassy in the Northern African country.
While appointing Gakinya on March 8, Ruto also assigned several other ambassadors.
The list featured former Communication Authority Director General Ezra Chiloba who will be heading to Los Angeles as Kenya's envoy.
Besides Gakinya, several other appointments were revoked by various government officials including by President Ruto.
The Head of State revoked the appointment of Halima Yussuf Mucheke as the Chairperson of the Board of the Tourism Regulatory Authority.
ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo also revoked the appointment of Valentine Khaminwa as a member of the Council of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication.
Additionally, Tourism CS Alfred Mutua also fired Francis Chachu Ganya as a member of the Kenya Wildlife Service Board.
By the same token, Trade CS Rebecca Miano revoked the appointment of Peter Munyiri Maina as the Chairperson of the National Standards Council.
Labour CS Florence Bore revoked the appointment of Anthony Muruiki Munyiri as the Chairperson of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
