Police in Murang’a were on Tuesday called into the County Assembly grounds after chaos erupted followed by immense wailing.

The altercation ensued after two opposing sides of the County Assembly disagreed over unknown reasons.

Residents outside the chambers were forced to call local authorities to separate the fighting politicians after the situation got out of hand.

In the video recorded at the scene, the politicians could be heard screaming and wailing in what appeared to be a huge fight.

During the fight, property of unknown value was destroyed as the fight escalated. During the proceedings the MCAs hurled chairs and tables at each other.

A door was left unhinged from the house entrance as several members ran out screaming and shoving each other. Meanwhile, several other politicians were left inside fighting before the police intervened.

In the recent past, more than three incidents involving MCAs fighting inside the Assembly over various issues have been recorded.

On February 21, proceedings at Laikipia County Assembly came to a halt after two opposing sides fought over plans to oust Minority Leader Sammy Lekopien Parletto.

The MCAs engaged in a brawl that ended up in a physical duel between the Speaker and his deputy.

Similarly, on March 14, Kakamega MCAs were involved in an altercation after a section of county lawmakers attempted to effect  house party leadership changes, which was met with strong opposition by the opposing side.

In a similar incident on April 2, Baringo Assembly UDA Party MCAs heckled the Speaker as he was trying to read new changes to the party’s House leadership.

“As I was reading the communication from both John Taurus and from the UDA Party, members from both camps charged at the speakers and attempted to snatch the letters,” Assembly Speaker Vincent Kemboi lamented at the time.
