Proceedings at the Laikipia County Assembly came to a standstill on Tuesday after Members of County Assembly (MCAs) engaged in physical fights as two opposing camps went at each other over plans to oust Minority Leader Sammy Lekopien Parletto.

The commotion started after a section of MCAs started protesting after Speaker Lantano Nabaala started reading out a motion of notice of impeachment seeking to hound out Lekopien Parletto from office.

During the proceedings the MCAs could be seen shoving and hurling objects at each other. At one point, Speaker Nabaala and his deputy Anthony Theuri engaged in a physical duel.

The MCAs supporting the Minority Leader argued that the notice was read without prior communication catching most of them unawares.

Once the Speaker read out the notice, the deputy speaker took on his boss in a duel as the MCAs started thumping their desks while other county legislators stormed out of the house.

"You want to silence the house. It will not be possible because this house is governed by the rule of law," Parleto told the press after storming out of the house.

Others openly admitted their dismay, as they condemned how the planned ouster had been carried out.

"The way events have transpired here today has been a shock to us, that we have a County Assembly that does not follow law and order," one of the MCAs, Gitahi Macharia told journalists.

Meanwhile, police officers were forced to intervene as the politicians overpowered the guards manning the assembly.

Following the bickering, the county assembly was closed and events were postponed till further notice.

Elsewhere in Kisii, 51 MCAs out of the 69 have signed an impeachment motion seeking to oust Deputy Governor Robert Monda.

While filing the motion on February 20, the MCAs accused the Deputy Governor of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
