Seven suspected drug dealers were arrested in Lamu County following a successful intelligence-led operation.

In a statement dated Tuesday, May 7, DCI detailed that its officers from the Anti Narcotics division had received intelligence on the involvement of the seven in the sale of narcotics at the Coast.

This led to the scrambling of an operation which saw the officers raid various homes in Lamu County.

As detailed by the investigative agency, cocaine with an estimated street value of Ksh3 million was seized from various homesteads.

DCI explained that the suspected drug dealers were aged between 23 to 41 years.

"During the raids, several houses suspected to be illicit drug hubs were targeted. One of the targeted houses belonged to suspect A, where a weighing machine and 5 pellets weighing approximately 85 grams were recovered.

"Similarly, in another suspect's house, a clear polythene bag with cocaine weighing approximately 164 grams was seized. At another residence, another polythene bag about 354g of the crack was also recovered," DCI stated.

The investigative agency added that the seven are being investigated over their involvement in the drug trade and have the intention of charging them with drug trafficking.

The seven suspects will be arraigned after investigations are completed.

On the other hand, the agency indicated that it would continue with similar operations as it seeks to weed out drug peddlers at the Coast and the country at large.

"This swift action emphasizes the government's unwavering dedication to combating the spread of illicit drugs within the region, prioritizing public safety and law enforcement," DCI added.

The arrest of the seven suspects comes following the launch of a nationwide crackdown on drug and substance abuse in the country.

In the exercise being led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, several individuals have been arrested while in possession of drugs.

Other companies have also been closed for allegedly manufacturing illicit alcohol.
