Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers on Wednesday arrested a suspected drug trafficker in Mombasa on Wednesday after he was found in possession of heroin and bhang.

In a statement issued by the agency, the detectives received a tip-off from members of the public who subsequently initiated an operation at the suspect's home.

During the raid, the detectives confiscated several sachets of what was believed to be heroin as well as several rolls of cannabis sativa.

The DCI sleuths also seized cash amounting to Ksh52,750 with some of it being dominated in US dollars.

Further, the DCI went ahead to seize the suspect's vehicle which they alleged was purchased using proceeds of crime.

“Also seized from the suspect is his vehicle which is believed to be a proceed of crime, cash Sh26,250 and USD 200 (Ksh26,500)”, stated the DCI.

Some other paraphernalia was also seized from the suspect including packaging envelopes believed to be used in the drug syndicate.

The detectives also confiscated three mobile phones believed to contain data that will help lead the the police to the suspect’s accomplices and aid in investigations.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court on April 18.

This arrest comes after law enforcement officers pledged to conduct an operation at the Kenyan Coast to flash out drug dealers in the region.

On March 17, a suspected drug baron, Yusuf Ahmed Swaleh alias Candy Rain, who is alleged to have inherited a multimillion drug empire from the Akasha brothers was found dead in mysterious circumstances.

The body was found dumped in a thicket in Kilifi County after he was allegedly picked up by persons posing as police officers for questioning.
