Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has criticised his former boss, President William Ruto, for focusing on infrastructure projects while ignoring the need to create job opportunities for young people.

The former minister and presidential advisor made these remarks, hours after President Ruto announced his major infrastructure projects at the Jamuhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium.

Kuria claimed that Ruto should focus not just on roads, but also on the growing number of school leavers who are expected to be job seekers in the coming years.

"It's okay and good to build dual carriageways, expressways and SGRs. But if we do not give serious attention to meaningful job creation driven by the private sector, very soon there will be nowhere for us to hide," Kuria claimed.

The former Cabinet Secretary highlighted the huge number of KJSEA graduates who he says will be job seekers in three years’ time.

"1.1 million graduated from KJSEA this year. It is the first time we are crossing the 1 million mark. That's the number of young people that will be joining the job market in 3 years’ time," Moses Kuria further stated.

During the Jamhuri Day Celebrations, President Ruto announced the government's plan to construct a 60-kilometre expressway from Nairobi City to Thika Town in Kiambu County.

Construction of the expressway, expected to start near the existing Nairobi Expressway at the Museum Hill Interchange, is expected to begin in 2026. It is intended to complement the existing Thika Superhighway by alleviating traffic congestion.

Ruto also announced plans to upgrade the existing highway connecting Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and ABC Point via Uhuru Highway and Waiyaki Way.

The President has began the construction of the Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Road (A8) and the Nairobi-Mai Mahiu-Naivasha Road Project launched on November 28, 2025.

Moses Kuria has now become a critic of the government, months after resigning from his position as President Ruto's economic advisor.

However, Kuria has been criticised by opposition leaders who claim that he is still working for the government.
