"...Yes, so after the car stopped, some big guys pulled him out and he..." that's all I hear before the line goes dead. John is probably out of credit, again.

I'll call him back in a bit, I still have minutes left. I'm on a post-pay plan: something I've been trying to sell John on for as long as chicken have laid their eggs.

But he always has an excuse, the one that's been winning so far being that it's a hassle getting on the postpaid plan.

It's true, we post-pay people all remember going to a Safaricom shop, ID card in tow and a deposit to register for the plan.

I tried telling him it was a quick process regardless but he stuck to his guns. But he doesn't really have an excuse now, Safaricom have made it so you can register for post-pay right from your phone without the need for a deposit.

I've been on post-pay for a while now and I'm always trying to convince my friends to convert.

I realized how much I was saving after I ditched the pre-paid life. You don't realise it but you end up spending a lot: a phone call here, a text message there not to mention Instagram bundles.

It looks like small amounts when you are recharging with Ksh 50 bobs and Ksh 20 bobs but if you added it up you find that you're spending quite an amount - you could be wiser.

That's why I tell everyone I meet of the advantage of getting a post-pay bundle. It actually saves you a lot of money and helps you budget better.

As I keep telling my friends, it's quite flexible and begins with the Ksh 1,000 bundles which gives you 5GB mobile data, 400 minutes to any network and unlimited SMSs.

You can also opt for the Ksh 2,000 bundle with 15 Gb data, 1,000 minutes as well as unlimited SMS.

The postpay plans range from the Ksh 1,000 all the way to Ksh 10,000 which has unlimited data, SMS and voice.

The bundles are designed to accommodate everyone, a fact I keep telling my friends, every Safaricom customer is eligible to join, with the only exception being corporate accounts.

And the best thing about the plan is that the data bundles don't have an expiration date. You get to use them as long as they last.

The other advantage is that the minutes in the bundle can be used to make international calls to the USA, Canada, China and India.

To pay for the plan, you’ll receive a bill on your email account on the 3rd of each month detailing how you can pay for your selected bundle.

The deal is too good to pass up.
