The government on Wednesday, September 4, confirmed the national examination calendar as students now begin learning for the third term after the initial interruption by the just concluded teachers strike that lasted for two weeks.
The Teachers Service Commission(TSC) in a directive to Directors of Education, confirmed the new dates for the national examinations together with a set of stringent measures that will be followed during the examination process and in particular, on the people who will administer the tests.
Nancy Macharia, the TSC Chief Executive Officer confirmed that the exams will begin from October 18, 2024 to November 22 this year across all examination centers in the country.
The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education(KCSE), is set to begin from October 18, with the rehearsals. The students will formally begin writing their exams on October 22 with the tests set to run for a month.
The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment(KPSEA) rehearsals will be running from October 25 with students set to begin the examinations on October 28 to November, 2024.
The KPSEA assessments will run alongside the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment ( KILEA) within the same time frame as stipulated in the TSC directive.
The TSC has in a new precedent directed that exams supervisors will now be rotated after every two weeks to enable the government weed out cheating instances as the candidates write their papers among other additional measures.
"Centre managers will be required to verify supervisors and invigilators posted in their centers by confirming their details and workstation. They will be required to take attendance on a daily basis,’’ Macharia noted in the directive.
The commission also directed the Sub County Directors to start the selection alongside the vetting for the supervisors, administrators, invigilators and center managers of high integrity to oversee the process.
"This is to request you to identify, vet and nominate the center managers, supervisors, and invigilators to be engaged in the administration of these examinations and assessments, deploy them into the CP2 system by 11th October 2024," the directive read in part.
The supervisors and invigilators will not be assigned in the same centers that they served in within the last two years. On this, the commission, revealed, will curb cheating.
