A family from Mutunguni in Kitui County is demanding justice after their daughter, a form two student at St. Angela's Girls' Kitui died under mysterious circumstances. The distressed family proceeded to the school on Monday as they struggled to come to terms with the unfortunate incident.

Seeking justice, the family of the deceased proceeded to the institution seeking to find out what happened. However, to their surprise, the management did not grant them access, forcing them to camp at the gate the whole day with no information from the institution forthcoming.

"We have been here since morning, they called us, but when we got here, they locked the gates and have not allowed us in. DCI officials are also here, but nothing has been done so far," the victim's sister lamented.

Gabriel Mulevu, an assistant chief from the area, who was present at the scene declined to reveal why the parents were blocked from accessing the institution.

The family insisted they want answers as to why they were not informed that their daughter had been ailing for two weeks, which they cited as a classic example of neglect.

The parents told journalists that they only learned that their child was not doing well when her condition deteriorated. They also claim that the daughter did not receive medical attention and was only rushed to Kitui Referral Hospital when it was too late. She passed away 5 days after being admitted to the Emergency Unit at the Kitui Referral Hospital. It is not immediately clear when the daughter passed away.

"I am very hurt, the negligence of this school has cost my sister's life. She was sick for two weeks and they did not take her to the hospital", her sister told the press.

The family further relayed that doctors revealed that their daughter succumbed to diabetes.

As such, the family and other leaders from the region are calling upon the relevant authorities to investigate the matter to ensure that justice is served.

Kitui Central Deputy Coordinator Dorcus Rono has advised the family to follow the relevant channels and record statements to allow investigations to commence.

Cases of students mysteriously losing their lives in school are not uncommon. In September, the parents to a boy schooling at Kamusinga School also demanded investigations after their kin died under mysterious at the institution.

The form two student reportedly fell inside a septic tank, which the school concluded was a case of suicide.

His family however rejected the school's report terming it as an attempt to cover up alleged negligence. Their suspicious were further emboldened by accounts from various students who denied that their colleague committed suicide.
