Willis Ayieko, the Human Resource manager who went missing last Friday, has been found dead in a worrying new twist.
Ayieko's passing brought an end to an unsettling wave of uncertainty which has ravaged his family for nearly a week since he went missing.
The deceased's body was discovered in Dudi Gem, Siaya County just hours after his vehicle, a Ford Ranger, was found abandoned in the Sabatia area.
His body was discovered near a stream with his hands handcuffed - a sight which suggests there could have been foul play involved.
The late Ayieko was last seen on Friday, October 18 in Gem, Siaya County, where he was attending a burial. He was later expected to set out for his home in Kakamega county for another event, but he never showed up, sparking concern.
The fact that his vehicle was discovered more than 60 kilometres away from where he was expected to be in attendance raised more questions than answers.
Clues on his disappearance and subsequent death continue to surface, with CCTV footage of two men abandoning his pick-up near a petrol station giving investigators a crucial lead.
It remains unclear why the deceased was targeted, although there are suspicions that his line of work could have something to do with his demise.
Police strongly believe unmasking the identity of the two men who were in possession of the pickup truck could be the difference in the case.
Ayieko's death brought to focus a worrying trend of mysterious killings which has rocked the country in recent weeks.
On September 27, the mutilated body of Wajir's Dela Ward MCA Yussuf Hussein Ahmed was discovered in Lake Yahud, two weeks after he was abducted. The Law Society of Kenya has since condemned the MCA's murder, terming it a gross violation of fundamental human rights.
In Eastleigh, a family is seeking justice after three family members - a mother and her two daughters - were found murdered in different locations within Nairobi.
