Residents of Mlolongo took matters into their own hands and gave the area MCA a taste of what they go through on a daily basis due to poor infrastructure.
Videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke show Syokimau/Mlolongo Ward MCA Daniel Mutinda being subjected to walking on murky water in the area as residents forced him to experience the poor infrastructure.
The helpless MCA could only oblige as he was surrounded by tens of residents who forced him to walk his way through a poor road flooded at some point.
In the videos, residents can be heard saying 'punda amechoka' which loosely translates to "the donkey is tired", as others cheered on while watching Mutinda endure his walk of shame.
Other area residents could be heard urging the County Assembly member to keep walking, insisting they were not out to harm the public servant.
Mutinda, who ascended to the National Assembly in 2022, can be seen in distress but tries to keep his calm as he is surrounded by tens of residents who are determined to make a point.
One of the biggest challenges in the Syokimau area in recent years has been the poor road networks, with many of the residents faulting the local government for doing little to help the situation.
Chady Road, an 800-metre stretch of road off the airport road in Syokimau Estate has particularly come under scrutiny due to its deplorable state, barely nine months after it was rehabilitated courtesy of the Kenyan Urban Roads Authority.
Despite KURA's efforts, the roads have consistently reverted to their dilapidated state by a number of factors including heavy rains which have intensified issues of flooding and destruction.
Stress from overloaded trucks coming from nearby Katani quarries has also posed a consistent threat to roads in Syokimau, leading to the emergence of dangerous potholes.
The situation is made worse by poor drainage in the area, which subsequently leads to water getting logged on the roads, leading to more damage.
Mutinda's plight was similar to one witnessed in September, when Muchatha ward MCA Murichu Gichinga was confronted by angry residents while in his car. The MCA had to quickly drive off as residents threatened to oust him in the next election.
