President William Ruto made eight fresh appointments across various parastatals and state bodies, aiming to streamline operations and improve service delivery in his administration.

Through a gazette notice on Friday, January 17, Ruto appointed Bernard William Chitunga as the Chancellor of the Co-operative University of Kenya. Chitunga will be at the helm of the university for a period of five years.

Additionally, Ruto picked Mohamed Ibrahim Elmi as the non-executive chairperson of the National Livestock Development and Promotion Service for three years.

The Head of State named Daniel Mwirigi M’amania the new non-executive chairperson of the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS). M’amania will serve for three years.

Ruto also appointed George Wanga to be the non-executive chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) for a three-year tenure. Wanga is the husband of Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, a staunch ally of Raila Odinga who is now part of Ruto’s government.

Consequently, Wanga’s appointment triggered the revocation of Jackson Boma Ojwang’s appointment in the same capacity.

Another person on Ruto’s appointment list was Kadhua Jimmy Kahindi, who was picked to be the new non-executive chairperson of the board at the Kenya Fishing Industries Corporation. Kahindi will serve for three years.

Kahindi was once the Speaker of the Kilifi County Assembly during the tenure of current Senate speaker Amason Kingi. Kahindi was also appointed by Ruto to chair the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority Board.

Another Ruto appointment is Timothy Bosire, who was named the non-executive chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). Bosire will serve for three years. His appointment signaled the revocation of Manoj Shah’s appointment in the same capacity.

Notably, Bosire was the former Member of Parliament for Kitutu-Masaba and the National Treasurer of the Orange Democratic Party.

The list of new appointments continues with Ahmed Kolosh Mohamed, who was posted to be the non-executive chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Maritime Authority for three years.

Rounding off the list of appointments is Edwin Sudi Wandabusi, who was appointed to be the non-executive chairperson of the Kenya Film Commission. Sudi will be at the helm for three years.

The appointments follow the recent high-profile appointment of former Gender CS Aisha Jumwa, who was named the non-executive chair of the Kenya Roads Board.

Further, the gazette notice sought to inform the public of the gazettement of the recent overhaul of the Public Service Commission (PSC). Seven members, amongst them Francis Meja, Boya Malu, and Harun Maalim Hassan, were gazetted as the new members of the PSC. Mary Wanjira Kimonye was also confirmed as the new vice chairperson of the PSC. Together with her members, they will serve for six years.
