The Investment, Trade, and Industry Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui has appointed Chrisantus Wamalwa as the new Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Standards Council (NSC).
In a gazette Notice dated February 21, the CS said that Wamalwa will hold the office for three years, with effect from Friday.
"Wakhungu Chrisantus Wamalwa (Dr) to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Standards Council for three(3) years, with effect from the 21st February 2025," the notice stated.
NSC is the policy-making body that oversees the administration and financial management of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).
The council sets the standards and guidelines for quality control and conformity assessment within the country; it is responsible for supervising the development and implementation of standards across various industries in Kenya.
Wakhungu Wamalwa served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kiminini Constituency in Trans-Nzoia County.
He was first elected a Kiminini MP in the 2013 general elections and then re-elected in the general elections of 2017 as a member of the Ford Kenya party.
During his tenure as an MP, he was involved in various parliamentary committees, including the Departmental Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations, and the Public Investment Committee.
In terms of education, Wamalwa holds a PhD from the University of Nairobi, a Masters in Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Science from Kenyatta University.
Wamalwa's appointment comes two months after President William Ruto made new appointments at the Kenya Bureau of Standards(KEBS), and the Public Procurement Regulatory Board
The President in a notice in December 2024, appointed the former Presidential aspirant Peter Kenneth as the Chairperson Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) National Standards Council.
Ruto appointed the former Murang'a Governor Mwangi-wa-Iria as the chairperson of the Public Procurement Regulatory Board.
