A police officer based at Naroosura Police Station in Narok County is under investigation for allegedly assaulting a woman in public and inflicting physical injuries during an incident linked to a case she had gone to report at the station.

The woman, who was reportedly assaulted with blunt objects, claimed the officer struck her on her rear parts after she visited the station to seek assistance regarding a motorcycle she had jointly purchased with her husband.

According to the occurrence book entry and a medical report seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the woman had jointly purchased the motorcycle with her husband, who later betrayed her by engaging in an affair and using the motorcycle’s proceeds to support his new relationship.

This left the woman despondent and without a source of income, prompting her to seek police intervention in addressing the situation.

It was only after arriving at the station, where she believed justice would be served by having her husband summoned, that she realised the officer may have colluded with the husband and the side chick to have her assaulted.

The officer allegedly turned on her, assaulting her in public and leaving her humiliated and nursing visible injuries.

It took the intervention of neighbours to save her life. She was rushed to the Naroosura Health Centre by her children and was discharged on Monday.

According to the medical report, she suffered soft tissue injuries and "grievous harm" and was discharged after being given treatment.

She later filed an assault case at the same station under the OB number 7/19/4/2025 at around 6:05pm. However, the woman whose name we have hidden for related reasons has raised fears of failing to get justice, as the accused officer is alleged to be under the protection of his seniors.

Additionally, the woman revealed that the case was dismissed at the police station and only took the intervention of other senior administrative officials for her to get an OB number.

The matter has since been escalated to the senior leadership of the policing authorities and anti-gender-based violence crusaders.

The incident adds to the worrying trend of gender-based violence and police brutality. Between September 2023 and December 2024, over 7,100 GBV incidents were reported, including more than 100 documented murders of women since August 2024.

In response to this crisis, the Kenyan government has declared GBV a national security threat and established a specialized police unit to address the escalating cases.
