The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has issued a notice warning of a planned service disruption on Thursday, May 1, between 12am and 11:59pm.

In a notice issued on April 30, the authority noted that the disruption would only affect systems at the Kilindini Port to facilitate a planned fiber migration exercise.

"Planned System Outage at Kilindini Port On Thursday, 1st May 2025, KRA systems at Kilindini Port will be inaccessible from 00:00 hrs to 23:59 hrs to facilitate a fiber migration exercise," part of the notice read.

"We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused."

Those set to be affected by this disruption are all KRA staff based at the Kilindini Port, clearing agents and shipping agents working at the port.

The disruption will notably fall on Labour Day, a public holiday when most government services will be unavailable.

This notice comes just a day after the authority issued another notice aimed at affecting port services on the coast.

In the April 29 issue of MyGov, KRA notified all stakeholders involved in stripping containers for goods destined for Zanzibar and Pemba to adhere to pre-set conditions on the exports.

"This Public Notice is meant to inform, bring clarity and require all stakeholders involved in the process to strictly adhere to and comply with the conditions to avoid any inconveniences," KRA stated.

"Members of the public and stakeholders involved are further notified that this notice supersedes any other public notice issued concerning the procedure of this matter."

The notice referred to a 2018 ban on the stripping of containers destined for Zanzibar and Pemba in Tanzania, which was lifted after consultations between KRA and the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) but under strict conditions.

They included that goods from the Port of Mombasa be entered under a Single Customs Territory (SCT) Framework in Zanzibar before being allowed to be shipped to Pemba and Zanzibar.
