Kiambu County Governor Kimani Wamatangi has dismissed seven members of the Ward Education Bursary Committees, whom he replaced almost immediately.

The governor, through the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Gender, Culture, and Social Services, Mercy Njagi, confirmed the members' revocation and the new appointment in a gazette notice on Friday, May 2.

The dismissed members include Timothia Gichia, who served as the chairperson of Muchatha Ward, and Julius Wambui Kinyanjui and Pauline Kamau, who were members of Muchatha Ward.

Others include Rosemary Njeri Ndichu, who was the chairperson of Karai Ward; Geffrey Ndung'u, a member of Sigona Ward; Hannah Wanjiru Mburu, chairperson of Bibirioni Ward; and Joseph Kuria Wanjiru, who was a member of Kijabe Ward.

"IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by Section 7 of the Kiambu County Education Bursary Fund Act 2014, the County Executive Committee Member for Education revokes the appointment of the persons named in the first column of the schedule as members of Ward Education Bursary Committees of respective wards," the notice stated.

The governor, in the same gazette notice, then appointed  James Mungai Kuria as the chairperson of Muchatha Ward and David Mungai Wang'ang'a and Stephen Mwihia Njau as members of Muchatha Ward.

Other appointments include  James Mwangi Nderi as the chairperson of Karai Ward, Peter Kenneth Gakuhi as a member of Sigona Ward, Mary Wanjiku Mwaura as the chairperson of Bibirioni Ward, and  Jane Gathoni Mwangi as a member of Kijabe Ward.

"IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 7 of the Kiambu County Education Bursary Fund Act 2014, the County Executive Committee Member for Education appoints the persons named in the first column of the schedule as members of Ward Education Bursary Committees of respective wards," it stated.

Mwangi did not, however, disclose why the appointment of the seven members was revoked.

The announcement comes a month after the county government, in a Gazette notice dated March 24, 2025, also dismissed four other members of the same committee.

Among those dismissed are Immaculate Wanja Mang'ere, the chairperson of Muguga Ward; Peter Kanja Kimani, the chairperson of Uthiru Ward; and Jane Njeri Makumi and Mariticron Wangui, who are members of Uthiru Ward and Ikunu Ward, respectively.

To replace the dismissed officials, the county then appointed three chairpersons  - Nelson Njenga Githinji (Mugunga Ward), Loise Njoki Maina (Kijabe Ward), and Joseph Njuguna Wanjiru (Uthiru Ward) – and two committee members  - Esther Nyambura Nyutu (Ikunu Ward) and Beatrice Wambura Muchiri (Uthiru Ward).
