Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga on Sunday, May 4, openly criticised James Orengo as he openly challenged the governor to leave the Orange Democratic Movement.
Oburu, while speaking during a church service in Migori County, was thoroughly critical of Orengo, whom he accused of being against the broad-based government.
"I am a truthful man from Siaya, and it pains me when my own governor claims he’s angry and wants to speak the truth. What truth is he referring to? The real truth is that we are part of the broad-based government," Oburu said.
He added, "Those opposing it from within are turning against us. If they believe it’s wrong, why don’t they just leave the ODM Party?"
His comments came just days after Orengo maintained that he would not join the "praise and worship" of the Kenya Kwanza government.
In his remarks, the county boss maintained that his defiance against the government was because he is adamant the country was headed in the wrong direction, particularly when it came to the question of respect to the law and constitution.
"The law can never be suspended, you must always live by the dictates of the Constitution. When (Adolf) Hitler formed the government, it was a coalition and that coalition died so I pray that ODM to withstand any storm," Orengo declared at a past address.
Orengo also claimed leaders within ODM were setting a bad precedent the country "in the name of signing post poll pacts".
Oburu Odinga also strongly defended the recent MoU between his brother Raila and President William Ruto, insisting that prior to the agreement, ODM stakeholders were consulted extensively.
"Before this agreement, Raila consulted extensively. I therefore want to say we are talking for our people. The governor is not given the mandate to battle for his people. He is given the mandate to serve his people."
Besides Oburu Odinga, Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi also accused Orengo of allegedly sabotaging the nation's development by opposing the broad-based government as he dared the governor to take decive action on his political future and affiliations.
In a clear show of support towards President Ruto's administration, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi also weighed in during the same church service with a subtle jab at Orengo by pledging to stand fully behind the broad-based government.
