Femicide Task Force to Begin Nationwide Hearings on GBV Next Week

Public participation to get feedback regarding the Technical Working Group on GBV, which was appointed by President William Ruto on January 10, 2025, is set to start next week.

The process is set to be conducted between Monday, May 12, and Wednesday, May 28, in all counties, starting from 9 am.

"In keeping with the Constitutional requirement of ensuring wide consultations and public participation, the Technical Working Group on GBV Including Femicide will hold citizen engagement meetings in all the 47 counties from 9:0 am on the dates and venues indicated herein below," a notice stated.

Monday, May 12: the process will be conducted in seven counties, including Taita Taveta at the CDF Hall, Mwatate, and in Garissa at the Garissa Government guest house. The others are Marsabit, at the Marsabit Catholic Cathedral hall; Embu, at the talent centre in Embu town; Samburu, at the Maralal Vocational Training Centre; and Kisumu, at Mama Grace Onyango Social Hall. 

In Trans Nzoia, the process will be conducted at the Kitale National Polytechnic.

Tuesday, May 13: The process will be conducted in Kirinyaga, NG-CDF Hall in Kerugoya; Laikipia, at the Rumurutu Catholic Church Parish Hall; and Narok County in the Narok Youth Empowerment Centre.

Wednesday, May 14: The government will hold the process in Mombasa at the Tononola Social Hall, Isiolo, at the Catholic Diocese Hall, Kitui, at the Kitui Multipurpose hall, Nyandarua, at the Ol Kalou CDF hall, Nyeri, at the Nyeri Cultural centre, West Pokot, at the Mtello Hall-Kaoenguria, and in Vihiga at the Friends yearly resource centre Vihiga.

Thursday, May 15: During this day, the process will be conducted in Meru at the Meru Teachers College Hall, in Murang'a at the Mothers Union Hall, in Nakuru at the Kenya Red Cross Hall, and in Bomet at the St Josephine Bakhita Hall.

Friday, May 16: The government is set to conduct the process in Kwale county at the Kwale cultural hall, Makueni, at the Wote technical Training Institute, Nandi, at the Kipchoge Keino stadium boardroom, in Kericho, at the ACK conference centre, in Kakamega, at the Magharibi hall, and in Nyamira county, it will be held at the KCB Hall in Nyamira town.

Monday, May 19: the public participation will be held in Tana River County at the county commissioner's boardroom; Tharaka Nithi at the Kathuana County Hall; Machakos at the  Kilimanjaro Hall, Machakos University; Kiambu at the county commissioner's boardroom, Uasin Gishu at the County Multipurpose Social Hall, Eldoret; and Bungoma County at the Red Cross Hall, Kandunyi.

On Tuesday, May 20, the process will be conducted in Homa Bay County at the Governor's Park.

Wednesday, May 21: The public participation will be conducted in Turkana, at the Lodwar Vocational Training centre, Elgeyo/Marakwet, at the KMTC Iten. In Kajiado, at the Kajiado Cultural Centre; in Busia, at the Agricultural Training Centre; in Migori, at the Migori TTC hall; and in Kilifi County, at the Juwapa Hall.

Thursday, May 22: It will be conducted in Wajir ICT Hall – Wajir town and  Mandera county at the  Amara Blue Resort.

Friday, May 23: at the Emergency Operation Command Centre in Baringo, Lamu; at the Kabarnet Vocational Rehabilitation Centre in Siaya, at the IEBC hall; and in Kisii, at the Agricultural Training Institute (ATC), the government will carry out.

Wednesday, May 28: The process will be conducted in Nairobi County in 5 stations. In Kibra, it will be held in Josephethe Hall (Woodley); in Kamukunji, at the California Resource Centre; in Dagoretti, at the Waithaka Social Hall; in Embakasi, at the Youth empowerment centre(Embakasi central sub county  HQ), and in Kasarani, it will be held synagogue of hope church hall.

President Ruto appointed the 42-member task force to curb the accelerating rate of GBV the country has been experiencing in the recent past.
 
Ruto tasked the committee with the responsibility of examiningassessing, reviewing, and recommending strategies to reinforce the institutional, legal, and policy response to GBV and femicide in the country.
