The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced a mass auction of vehicles while inviting the public to engage in the disposal exercise.
In a public notice on Monday, May 19, the authority gave particulars of the auction, stating that the exercise will include vehicles located at NTSA offices in different counties, ranging from Nyahururu to Nakuru.
The auction, which will be done through a contracted auction company, will take place on different dates between June 4 and June 13, 2025.
According to the NTSA, at least 10 units are on auction, ranging from pickup trucks to station wagons. Of the 10 units at auction, nine are Toyotas.
The authority further clarified that all items will be sold strictly on an "as-is, where-is" basis, with no warranties from either NTSA or the contracted auctioneer.
To enhance public confidence in the exercise, the NTSA also revealed that the auction process was governed by clear terms and conditions, and would be conducted in accordance with the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act (PPADA) 2015.
Interested bidders have been instructed to purchase the official auction catalogue at a cost of Ksh500. The catalogue can be collected at Kenya Post Bank Pension Towers, Chambers Road, 3rd Floor, Suite No. 17.
Interested bidders who wish to view the vehicles will be allowed to do so on weekdays during normal working hours until June 3, 2025. This, according to NTSA, will give them ample time to inspect the units and verify the details.
NTSA further revealed that a minimum refundable deposit of Ksh100,000 is required, after which interested parties will receive a bidding number, which will also serve as a receipt and a pass to the auction yard. June 3 is also the due date for submitting bid deposits.
A successful bidder will have to pay 10 per cent of the purchase price on the auction date, with the NTSA allowing the balance to be cleared within 14 calendar days. The authority also warned against failure to settle within that period, as it could result in forfeiture of both the 10% and the original bid deposit.
More importantly, NTSA clarified that all payments would be paid through e-Citizen as instructed by the authority's accountant, who will be present at all auction venues.
Once full payment has been made by a bidder, they will be expected to collect their item within 14 days, otherwise, a Ksh1000 daily storage fee will be charged thereafter.
On the other hand, unsuccessful bidders will receive a refund from the NTSA within seven days after the auction.
The NTSA, like other government agencies, regularly engages in public auction exercises to decommission vehicles and other assets that are no longer cost-effective to maintain.
