Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has slammed Trans Nzoia MCAs for travelling to Kisumu to receive Governor George Natembeya when he visited the county on Monday.

Instead, the senator said the MCAs should be thinking of how should impeach Natembeya, and not supporting him.

Cheragei's statement came hours after Natembeya landed at the Kisumu International Airport Earlier today, where he was welcomed by Trans Nzoia MCAs who had travelled 169 kilometers, to receive the county chief.

In a statement in his official X account on Monday, May 26, Cherargei said the MCAs, whom he branded as ''a national embarrassment", should be in the process of impeaching Natembeya, not following him around.

Cherargei, who is a vocal critic of the governor, labelled him as an incompetent leader, stressing that his impeachment will be fundamental in restoring accountability in the county.

"The Trans Nzoia County MCAs are a national embarrassment. Instead of beginning impeachment proceedings against Governor Natembeya over poor development and poor governance, they are busy rolling out the red carpet for him," Cherargei said.

"As a country, we must choose either to use constitutional accountability mechanisms or normalise graft!" he added.

It is not the first time the senator has called for the impeachment of the governor. In April, Cherargei claimed that the governor was conducting tribal politics, which he claimed made him unfit to lead the county.

"Governor Natembeya should be impeached for stoking tribal animosity, division, poor development, and graft allegations. These offences are impeachable under the Constitution of Kenya 2010 for violating Articles 10, 27, 73, 74, 75, and 174,"  Cherargei said.

Natembeya flew to Kisumu and then went ahead to hold a public rally in Kakamega, a move that has triggered controversy.

However, during his rally in Kisumu, the governor claimed he will not be intimidated by anyone and he will not back down in calling out the government's project, particularly the leasing of four sugar factories in the Western region and the employment of the youths.

The governor, who labelled himself as a " general," said he has the right to speak his mind without fear as provided for in the constitution.

The governor claimed that his apprehension was aimed at preventing him from opposing some government projects, such as the leasing of four sugar factories in the western region, and the lack of job opportunities for the youth.

"Our constitution allows people to speak, and I won't fear because I'm protected by the constitution. Now I am a commando and a general because I have many followers who will always support me," Natembeya said.
