Students from the Chebisaas Boys High School in Eldoret took to the streets on Saturday night to protest an alleged disappointing concert.

Under the dim lighting of street lights, the students marched on the highway towards Eldoret City, whistling and chanting.

Reportedly, the students had been promised a concert if they paid Ksh250 each, but were disappointed by the choice of the artist.

According to reports, the school administration chose a local vernacular musician, something that did not resonate well with the boys, who saw it as blatant tribalism.

In videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke the high schoolers were heard chanting as they walked along the Kisumu Road with motorists stopping to let them through.

Some of the students were even seen covering their faces with clothing, supposedly to avoid being identified.

Information on whether and how the night riots ended has yet to be communicated, as at the time of the publication of this article as the authorities and the school have yet to issue an official statement on the same.

This is the latest case of high school students protesting during the weekends over the past few weeks.

On Wednesday, July 17, St. Patrick’s Iten Boys High School in Elgeyo Marakwet County was closed indefinitely after students staged a violent protest which resulted in destruction of school property.

The strike was a result of the students reportedly opposing sitting this term’s examinations, prompting the administration to send all learners home as a precautionary measure.

On June 11,  Litein Boys High School students also went on a rampage, allegedly protesting over undercooked rice served during dinner.

The chaos reportedly began around 9pm in the school dining hall, where initial complaints turned into widespread unrest. Students then began shattering windows, breaking furniture, and even vandalising the main gate.

Police successfully quelled the riot after hours of engagement, though the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
