One person has died and two others injured after a vehicle lost control and crashed before catching fire near Majengo area, along the Kisumu–Kakamega Highway.
According to reports, the accident happened on Thursday, September 18, in the evening as photos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed the vehicle engulfed in flames.
The flames mostly covered the front of the vehicle, suggesting that the fire probably originated in the engine area.
The vehicle reportedly veered off the road and burst into flames on impact. The number of people inside the ill-fated car was yet to be confirmed by the time of publishing.
Following the incident, other motorists flocked to the scene to help with the rescue efforts before security agencies and other emergency services arrived.
The other two who were injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Isebania-Migori Highway Crash
The accidents came a day after two people died, and seven others sustained injuries following an accident involving a Probox and a trailer that occurred along the Isebania-Migori highway.
The accident, which happened on Wednesday, September 17, in the Mabera area, Migori County, happened after a speeding Probox lost control and rammed into an oncoming trailer at a bridge on the highway.
Those who sustained critical injuries were taken to Akidiva Hospital, with the bodies of the deceased taken to the mortuary of the same facility.
According to Kuria West Sub-County Police Commander Reuben Bett, the two vehicles were moving in opposite directions when the Probox crashed into the trailer.
Reports indicated that one of the deceased was the driver of the Probox, who was ferrying passengers to Isebania when the vehicle crashed into the trailer that was headed to Migori.
According to the police boss, security agencies and rescue teams were immediately dispatched, and rushed the injured individuals to various healthcare facilities in the county.
