Eight police officers from Maseno Police Station have been arrested by investigative agencies over the theft of a 200 Series Toyota Land Cruiser.
According to a police report, the vehicle was found abandoned at Maseno Shopping Centre and taken to the station's car park for safekeeping.
However, the vehicle later went missing from the station, and the arrested officers have been accused of being behind its mysterious disappearance.
"The arrests followed investigations into the theft of a black Toyota Land Cruiser V8, which had been reported stolen from Maseno Police Station parking yard on September 16, 2025," the report read in part.
The missing car was, however, recovered abandoned at Maseno Shopping Centre before being taken back to the station again.
"The vehicle was later recovered abandoned at Maseno Shopping Centre and returned to the station yard as per the station records," police said.
The officers were arrested on the evening of Monday, September 22 in a joint operation involving the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), County Criminal Investigation Officers, and the County Police Commander in Kisumu.
“This case is under active investigation by DCI Nairobi Headquarters and the CCIO Kisumu. The officers are in custody as part of ongoing efforts to establish the circumstances that led to the disappearance of the vehicle,” the report added.
According to the police report, the suspected police officers are currently held at Kisumu Central Police Station awaiting further interrogation and action.
"They remain in custody awaiting interrogation as the case continues to be investigated," the police said.
The investigative agencies are still trying to piece together and trace how the recovered car disappeared from the police compound.
The police, however, urged the public to report any incidents that will help with the investigation.
