Nairobi County Women Representative Esther Passaris has urged citizens to buy clothes made in Kenya, supporting the local industry.
The Women Rep said this during the Kenya Fashion Story Annual Showcase at Kenya Fashion Week held on November 29, 2025, in Nairobi.
Passaris urged that supporting Kenyan fashion will create employment, culture, and identity for the youth.
"When we support Made in Kenya fashion, we are not just buying Kenyan clothes; we are investing in jobs, culture, identity, and the future of our youth," the Women Representative said.
The Nairobi County Member of Parliament emphasized that buying Kenyan clothes will increase the competitiveness of Kenyan designers internationally.
"If we strengthen our local creative economy, then our designers will not only compete locally but also internationally, and when young people thrive, Kenya thrives," the Women Rep affirmed.
Passaris also urged fashion creatives to keep working on their dreams, saying that their talents are shaping 'the Kenya we want'—bold, beautiful, and globally competitive.
The Kenya Fashion Week held the Student Fashion Design Awards and the KFW Main Show held on November 1, 2025, prior to The Kenyan Fashion Story held on November 29, 2025.
The Kenya Fashion Story event was founded by Ingrid Awuor, a fashion producer, model coach, and a fashion event organizer.
Other leaders who have been on the front advocating for the support of local fashion include President William Ruto, who has been donning his official Kaunda suit in most of his public events.
The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) also pledged to support Kenyan fashion design in 2023. The women legislators committed to wearing outfits made by local designers for parliamentary sessions, specifically to boost Small and Medium-sized Enterprises.
