Several terrorists were gunned down by a multi-agency security team while attempting to enter the country through the Kenya-Somalia border.

The well-coordinated attack and swift action by the specialised officers prevented a potential threat to the country's national security, restoring calm along the ever-risky border.

A statement by the Counter Terrorism Policing Kenya on Sunday, November 30, revealed that the militants attempted to breach the border under the cover of darkness.

However, the specialised officers deployed on the Kenya-Somalia border quickly detected the unusual activity early before the militants entered the country.

The multi-agency team, consisting of officers from the counter terrorism department, intercepted the suspected terrorists and gunned them down, killing all of them on the spot.

"A group of terrorists attempted to infiltrate our border. Our Special teams manning our border taught them a lesson. Our superior firepower and committed officers will always win against the enemies of our nation," the Anti Terrorism Unit revealed.

Images shared by the security officers showed the bodies of the suspected terrorists lying on dusty ground. It is not, however, clear the exact number of militants who were killed.

The incident comes amidst concerns over the surging cases of insecurity along the Kenya-Somalia border, mainly posed by suspected terrorists crossing into the country from Somalia.

This comes just a month after the Special Operations Group (SOG) successfully thwarted a planned terror‌ attack by Al-Shabaab militants in Garissa County.

Reports indicated that about eight Al-Shabaab militants had reportedly set up Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDS) at the Welmerer-Yumbia area when SOG received the intelligence.

The officers immediately responded and en‌gag‌ed‍ the militants in a fierce exchange of fire, managing to‌ r‌e‍recover seve‍ral assem‍bled explosives that wer‍e allegedly intended for a‌ttacks against Kenyans.

While addressing members of the public moments after the successful mission, security off‌icials commended the loc‌al community for their vigilance, noting that the timely intelligence helped curb a crisis.
