Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a manhunt for a suspect who stabbed a digital taxi driver to death following a disagreement in Nairobi.
The incident occurred over the weekend in the Kitusuru area when the driver, Kenneth Kimani Gachoka, picked up a passenger from a petrol station in Westlands and drove him to Chrisco Christian Church. A dispute reportedly erupted upon reaching the destination.
During the altercation, the passenger allegedly stabbed Gachoka in the neck; however, despite the injury, the driver managed to escape and call his colleagues, who rushed him to a nearby hospital.
He was, however, pronounced dead on arrival. Before his death, Gachoka reportedly told colleagues about the attack, describing how the passenger had turned violent during their confrontation.
Police later visited the scene and impounded the vehicle at the station as part of ongoing investigations, with the driver’s body moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Investigators have also reviewed CCTV footage from the petrol station where the passenger was picked up in a bid to identify and trace the suspect.
Additionally, the police have urged anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward as the manhunt for the killer continues.
The incident comes just a week after a 30-year-old father of three, boda boda rider Antony Otieno, was found brutally murdered at Meridian Apartments in South B, Nairobi, in what police suspect was a setup linked to a phone delivery gone wrong.
The victim was discovered under the bed in house no. 72 on the fifth floor, tied at both the head and legs, with a scarf stuffed in his mouth.
According to reports, what was meant to be a simple in-person delivery of a brand-new iPhone 17 Pro Max ordered online turned deadly for the delivery rider.
Detectives recovered a knife, a metal rod believed to be the murder weapon, and the very phone the rider had been delivering with his motorcycle, which remained parked.
The apartment had been paid for just hours earlier by two unknown men with Ksh2,500 in cash, according to the manager. Police are yet to announce a breakthrough in the investigations.
