Google Releases Leading Searches by Kenyans in 2025

As the year comes to an end, Google has released its top trending searches for 2025, with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga dominating Kenya's leading searches.

Odinga's influence largely dominated Google's searches in Kenya, with terms like “enigma,” which is associated with him, also topping the searches on the search engine.

Under Google's list of top searched trending deaths in Kenya, Raila led, followed by Liverpool Football Club forward Diogo Jota, U.S. political activist Charlie Kirk and Pope Francis.

Other most searched demises by Kenyans also included former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati, teacher Albert Ojwang, journalist Kimani Mbugua and Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu.

Under the news category, the African National Championships (CHAN) held between July and August this year topped the list, followed by Raila Odinga, who passed away on October 15, 2025.

The Social Health Authority (SHA) emerged third, followed by Diogo Jota's demise, Afya Yangu, Charlie Kirk, Pope Francis and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

In November 2025, the Ugandan Head of State found himself trending in Kenya after claiming that the Indian Ocean belonged to him and further threatening to engage in a war with Kenya.

According to Google, the term Enigma topped the list under the trending meanings in Kenya, with other searches such as Jowi and Conclave also dominating the list.
Other terms that were also widely searched by Kenyans are the meaning of demure, Kubant and Habemus Papam, Wantam, Ayurvedic, Saba saba and blood moon.

Under the trending Kenyan personalities, athlete Faith Kipyegon topped as the most searched personality in Kenya, with most of Raila's family members dominating the list.

Kipyego was followed by Raila's daughter Winnie Odinga, his elder brother Oburu Odinga and the former Prime Minister's sister Ruth Odinga and Rosemary Odinga.

Others are Journalist Edward Kwach, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat and Margaret Nduta, who went viral after being sentenced to life in Vietnam.

In its report, Google also released the top ten trending songs of 2025, led by Jamaica Farewell by Harry Belafonte, followed by Adonai by Nathaniel Bassey and Pawa by Mbosso.

Songs that also topped the list were Iyanni's Donjo Maber, Backbencher by Toxic Lyrikali, Nyaduse by Kodongklan, Jowi by Coster, Taya by Okello Max, All my enemies are suffering by Bien, and My darling by Chella.
