Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga Reveals Voter Apathy Will Cost ODM

Kisumu County Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga has revealed that voter apathy in the country will cost Opposition Chief and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga the presidency.

Addressing the media, Ruth warned that ODM should not favour any candidate ahead of the August polls as it will hurt Raila’s chances.

Ruth noted that favouritism in the party will lead to voter apathy and jeopardise Raila’s quest to unseat the ruling party, Jubilee.

"Unfair game will lead to voter apathy and we don't want that scenario," stated Ruth.

She cautioned the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) to ensure they give each candidate a level playing field ahead of the polls.

The Deputy Governor, who is also Raila’s younger sister, highlighted that the electioneering period was intense and any apprehension by the voters on the process in ODM is a threat to the National Super Alliance (NASA) ambitions.

Ruth cited nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro’s case, who was reportedly denied the chance to vie for the Ruaraka parliamentary seat by the party.

She pointed out that NEB should not meddle in the nomination of candidates, adding that Ongoro should be allowed to vie in any constituency of her choice.

Senator Ongoro had on Wednesday stormed the ODM party headquarters flanked by hundreds of supporters to protest the move by the party to bar her candidature in the party.

In the ensuing melee, ODM Executive Director Oduor Ongwen was allegedly roughed up by the youths.
