UN and Commonwealth Report Ranks EACC the Best in Africa

Kenya's anti-graft body, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), has been ranked the best in Africa.

The Anti-graft agency scored highest in terms of handling and managing evidence compared to the rest of 17 agencies in the Continent.

EACC further emerged top in compliance to the oath of office, code of ethics, mission statement and system of policy and procedure.

On operational management, Kenya and Sierra Leone emerged top with a score of 80 percent followed by neighbouring Uganda at 73.3 per cent.

The ranking was released after a study was conducted between June 2015 and June 2016 by the Commonwealth and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

“The Commission [EACC] scored 100 percent in the area of mutual legal assistance compliance.

“Only Lesotho, Namibia and Zimbabwe scored 50 per cent on mutual legal assistance; the rest did not earn any score,” EACC spokesman Yassin Amaro stated.

The ranking is set to spark debate considering the EACC has severally been put on the spot for apparently failing in its mandate to fight the runaway corruption in the country.
