Court Orders Hassan Joho to Testify in Person in KCSE Certificate Case

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho's degree case has taken a new twist following a ruling issued by the High Court.

The Court of Friday directed that the Governor should now appear and testify in person in the case in which he is seeking to permanently block the State from investigating his academic credentials.

Joho moved to court after allegations emerged that he had forged his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education certificate in order to gain admission into university.

“I want this matter to be concluded before the General Election because it might have some implication in the coming General Election,” said Justice Ogola.

Justice Ogola ordered the parties in the case to report to court on May 30 to fix the hearing date so that the legal suit can be expedited.

A host of government agencies including Kenya Revenue Authority, Kenya National Examination Council and Immigration Department launched investigations into Joho's tax returns, academic certificates and birth certificate, prompting him to move to court.

The investigations were launched almost at the same time which sparked that the agencies were maliciously targeting the Governor for his frequent criticism of the Jubilee government.

Through his lawyer Julie Soweto, Joho wants the police ordered to stop any further investigations and bar the Director of Public Prosecution from prosecting him.
