Migori ODM Chairman Sacked for Supporting Independent Candidate

ODM Migori Chair Philip Makabong'o has been fired and replaced with his Suna East counterpart Phesto Ogwada over accusations of publicly campaigning for an independent candidate.

According to the County organising secretary Joseph Nyambori, the former chair was defying party rules and regulations by supporting a different aspirant instead of the nominated ODM candidate.

"We will not allow Makabong'o to be campaigning for non-party aspirants, that shows lack of respect to the party members and aspirants at this election period," Nyambori emphasised.

Makabong’o is accused of campaigning for Ochillo Ayacko who is vying for Migori governorship as an independent candidate instead of incumbent Governor Okoth Obado.

He had initially vowed to step down from his post if Governor Obado won the hotly contested primaries.

The former Chair further advised that the six-piece voting would not work after aspirants who felt aggrieved sought independent candidature stating that it would reduce voter apathy created by disgruntled voters.

In an interview with Citizen TV, he declared that the ODM party was happy with his decision to support independent candidates as long as it would not interfere with the ultimatum goal of helping ODM leader Raila Odinga win the Presidency.

During a burial in Rarieda, Odinga asked voters to elect NASA - affiliated aspirants warning independent candidates against using his name to satisfy their selfish interests.
