Kenyan Woman Rose Achieng Ojala Sentenced to Death in Malaysia For Drug Trafficking

Kenyans woke up to the news that one of their own, a mother of three children, had been sentenced to death.

Rose Achieng Ojala was sentenced to death by a Court in Malaysia after being found guilty of possessing methamphetamine that she was trying to smuggle into the country.

A Malaysian Newspaper, Daily Express reported that Ojala had concealed three capsules of the drug in her private parts and ingested another 68 capsules totaling to 400gms.

On the day that Ojala was arrested, staff at Kuala Lumpur airport noticed that she was behaving suspiciously when a routine search was being conducted on her and her luggage.

Upon a thorough search, three capsules of methamphetamine weighing more than 20g were found in her underwear.

She revealed that her boyfriend had stuffed the capsules in her private parts before boarding the flight.

Further x-ray examination revealed that she had swallowed 68 capsules of the drug weighing more than 380gm.

Earlier on, there was drama in the court premises when Ojala who allegedly suffers from Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) fainted, forcing her to be brought to the courtroom in a wheelchair.

This adds to the number of Kenyans who have been arrested on drug-related charges with some being sentenced to death.

In 2015, a court in China sentenced Floviance Razan Owino to death by hanging on drug-related charges.
