New Twist in Mumias Sugar Company Legal Affairs Manager Robert Lubya Killing

New revelations now indicate that Mumias Sugar Company Legal Affairs Manager Robert Lubya, who was killed on Sunday, was not shot dead as earlier reported.

A preliminary autopsy report released on Tuesday revealed that the deceased was hit by a blunt object ruling out bullet as the cause of his death.

Initially, it was believed that the manager died after he was shot at close range by three unknown gunmen.

Armed men who had masked their faces are said to have stormed Lubya's house on Sunday night and made away with household goods and the family the family vehicle, a Toyota Harrier, which they used as a getaway car.

Meanwhile, Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Benjamin Washiali has denied any link with the murder of the Mumias Sugar Company manager.

He also stated that he was not behind the flee of Mumias Sugar Company Chief Executive Officer Errol Johnson who fled to Australia.

Earlier on, Lugari MP Ayub Savula had told the police to investigate Washiali alleging that he may have been involved in the murder.

“That is a major conflict of interest. You cannot purport to be fighting for farmers when at the same time you are demanding millions of shillings from the same company that should help the farmers,” he said.

The killing caused a storm in the political scene with National Super Alliance leaders alleging that Lubya was killed by powerful cartels in the Sugar industry after he failed to sign a deal allowing the illegal importation of sugar.

Speaking in Kisii, President Uhuru Kenyatta dismissed the claims by the Opposition, challenging them to come forward with any evidence they have to ensure that justice is served.
