Five mutilated bodies were Monday morning found dumped along the railway line in Nairobi's Kibera area.
The bodies had been stuffed in sacks and had several parts missing.
Police who arrived at the scene cordoned off the area to keep away the crowd that was milling around the scene.
Among the victims was a resident of the slums who had allegedly gone missing on Saturday.
"The bodies were mutilated, eyes gouged out and private parts chopped off before being stuffed in a sack," an officer handling the case stated.
After the incident, residents described how they were living in fear and called on police to increase patrols in the area.
They faulted the security forces pointing out that crime incidences in the slum had increased during the campaign period.
