The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) Chairperson on Monday announced a new pay structure reducing gross salaries for all State officials.
The President will now take home Sh1,443,750 down from Sh1.65 Million with the deputy president earning Sh1.2 Million down from Sh1.4 Milllion.
Governors' salaries have also been slashed to Sh924,000 from Sh1.06 Million while the county deputies will get Sh621,250 down from Sh701,441.
Senators, Members of Parliament (MPs) and Women Representatives will all now take home Sh621,250 as opposed to the Sh710,000 they have been earning.
Senate and National Assembly speakers will now earn Sh1.15 Million, a drop from Sh1.32 Million as their deputies take home Sh924,000 down from Sh1.056 Million.
Speakers at the county assembly as well as County Assembly Clerks will now get paid Sh259,875 down from Sh350,000.
The salary for Members of County Assemblies has also been reduced to a Sh144,375 gross salary, a significant reduction from Sh165,000.
Cabinet Secretaries, the Attorney General and the Chief of Defence Forces will now receive Sh924,000 down from Sh1.056 Million.
The earnings of Army Commanders have also bee slashed to Sh747,461 down the previous salary of Sh854,241.
Principal Secretaries and all government officers who fall within that band of job groups will draw a gross pay of Sh765,188.
The SRC Chairperson Sarah Serem noted that allowances that were prone to abuse had also been abolished as stated in an earlier presser.
At the county level, all allowances for governors and their deputies including reimbursable mileage and the special responsibility allowance have been scraped.
Senate and National Assembly members have also had their sitting allowance for plenary sessions, mileage allowance and the special parliamentary allowance abolished.
"There's absolutely no reason why the Senate and National Assembly members should earn a salary and at the same time draw a sitting allowance for the plenary sessions otherwise there will be money for sitting, standing and walking allowances so this is removed," Serem chided.
Replacing the mileage allowance, the SRC has introduced a zoning system for calculating a monthly transport pay for the Senate, County and National Assembly officials.
