29 out of 30 MCAs Voted Out in Makueni County

Preliminary results released by the IEBC show that voters in Makueni County have voted out 29 out of the 30 Members of County Assembly who were seeking re-election in Tuesday's polls.

The biggest loser was County Assembly Majority leader Francis Mutuku representing Kilili/Kalamba Ward who was defending his seat on a New Democrats Party.

He was beaten by former County Commissioner Julius Mutula who garnered 5,005 votes against Mutuku’s 4,047 votes.

The former assembly minority leader of Muungano party John Mwenze suffered a similar fate.

Mwenze failed to defend his seat against Alfred Mutuku who was vying on a Wiper ticket in Nguumo Ward.

Another casualty was the immediate deputy speaker Bernard Musau of Makindu Ward who was defeated by Alfred Kituku who is the former head of protocol in the governor’s office.

The only survivor of what seemed like a total recall of the assembly was Francis Mutungi of Kathonzweni Ward.

The assembly had a lot of trouble with Governor Kivutha Kibwana over budgeting issues.

The county law makers sought to impeach the governor at one point, prompting Kivutha to write to the president asking for dissolution of the assembly.

Although the commission reported enough grounds to suspend the county government, President Kenyatta spared the county.
