The government has beefed up security across the country ahead of a major announcement by National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga.
Reports indicate that more security personnel have been deployed to all areas where violence was witnessed after the declaration of President Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner of the presidential election.
Some of the areas with heightened security include; Opposition strongholds of Kisumu, Mathare and Kibera.
Mr Odinga on Sunday addressed his supporters in Kibera and Mathare where he noted that he would make an important announcement regarding his next move on Tuesday (today).
“We are not done yet. We will not give up. Wait for the next course of action” Raila stated.
President Kenyatta on Monday noted that it was the right of citizens to demonstrate but cautioned that violent protests would not be tolerated.
"Just do it peacefully, orderly... As a government we will not allow the loss of life, destruction of property and looting because millions of Kenyans also are desirous to go about their business as before," he stated.
The country has been in a tense mood for the past few days as supporters of Mr Odinga have engaged the police in running battles.
According to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), at least 24 people, including a 9-year-old girl, have been killed since the election results were announced.
“Deaths can be directly linked to the elections and post-election environment, family and community members have indicated they were killed during the protests, which broke out in some parts of the country after the polls," Kagwiria Mbogori, chair of the commission stated.
