Jubilee Party Leaders Welcome NASA's Decision To Challenge the Presidential Results

President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party team led by House Majority Leaders on Wednesday welcomed the decision by National Super Alliance (NASA) Leaders to move to the Supreme Court to contest the re-election of President Kenyatta.

The leaders noted that following the legal process was the right decision that was in line with the requests by all observer missions involved in the elections, religious leaders and the international community.

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale stated that the Opposition Leaders now had the opportunity to show the country their pieces of evidence and explain why they were unsatisfied with the results.

“Everybody, the voices of reason, have been urging those not satisfied with the outcome of the polls to petition in court. Let their lawyers now bring the evidence before the court and I am certain our lawyers and those from IEBC will counter all the evidence they come up with,” he stated.

The Majority Leader, however, took issue with NASA Presidential candidate Raila Odinga's statements that their petition would provide the judges with an avenue to redeem themselves after the court dismissed his 2013 petition. Duale noted that such sentiments were meant to intimidate the judicial officers.

Senate Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki on his part expressed confidence that President Kenyatta would retain his seat as he had won the elections fairly.

“We have been ready for NASA any day, anytime, anywhere. Even if there is any other court they will wish to go after losing in the Supreme Court, we are ready for them. Even if it's before an international court,” said Kindiki.

He further noted that NASA’s petition was a “case to nowhere” as it was only prolonging their “definite loss”, which had been made when Kenyans re-elected President Kenyatta last week.

The outgoing Tharaka Nithi Senator, however, noted that it was their constitutional right to challenge the election in an attempt to resuscitate their “sealed fate”.

"Theirs is like that case of a terminally ill patient who keeps on taking painkillers to relieve pain, even though knowingly he is facing death,” Kindiki stated.

Church Leaders and Members of the Diplomatic corps also welcomed the move adding that all other leaders disputing the results should follow the constitutional ways of resolving disputes, rather than resulting to violence.
